Are you a CANCER cell or a WHITE cell in the BODY?

cancer cell: any evil condition or thing that spreads destructively; blight.[1]

white cell: the body’s defense system. Your white count rises with infection as your body creates more soldiers to kill the disease.[2]

As you see by the definitions of these two cells they are in exact opposite of each other. A cancer tries to disrupt or destroy while a white cell tries to repair and bring back together the body parts affected. I particularly like this definition of White cell because as Christians we are to “fight the good fight” [3], being ready for battle, soldiers in God’s army. As defined a Cancer cell would be anyone who spreads discord in the body of Christ[4]; bad attitudes, impatience, unforgiveness, anger, resentments, envyings…[5]. As defined a WHITE cell sows seeds of kindness, love, forgiveness…[6]. So using these as our starting point for discussion:

Are you a WHITE cell or a CANCER cell in the BODY of CHRIST?

I know for instance that when I focus on the right things[7] and remember to walk in love, I can operate as a white cell. Being mindful and guarding my thoughts, emotions and actions, bringing all under the obedience of Christ my Lord and Savior.[8] Making a choice to serve not by what my flesh[9] would want but by God’s will for my life. We choose to pray for others, we choose to do good deeds, we choose what we say, carefully when we are walking in love. However when I lose my focus on God and I start walking no longer in love but in the flesh[10], I then am operating as a cancer cell. I then choose flesh over spirit which leads to death.[11] When we are walking in fleshly pursuits we care not who we hurt as long as we gain that which our flesh wants. We become selfish and defensive. We then cannot understand our own actions or reactions effect on others nor do we actually care about that effect. All sin can be traced back to some selfish intent. I do not say this lightly, again all sin can be traced back to a selfish intent. In the Garden of Eden for example what caused Eve to sin? A selfish desire to be equal in knowledge with her Creator.[12] That knowledge of good and evil she sought for and gained because of selfishness, we then are all cursed under the Law[13]. Praise and Glory be unto God for sending Jesus so that we might live instead of getting our just recompense for our sin, which would be death[14]. But for those who truly believe and have faith in and seek and confess Jesus as Lord and Savior there is mercy and grace unto eternal life.[15] When we stop long enough to realize that we are solely responsible for the choices we make, (the choice to walk in the spirit or the flesh), and will be held responsible to God for those choices[16]; then we can walk in the unconditional love that God would have us to. For is it not love that separates us from the world, is that not how Jesus said His disciples would be known ( by the love they had for each other[17])?

1Co 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.

1Co 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:

1Co 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.

1Co 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
